 UTTARAKHAND DISASTER

Bharat Sevashram Sangha is still fighting all odds at Uttarakhand for relief work.  Now, at Joshimath, Karnaprayag and Kedarnath area, blankets and tarpaulins are being distributed to the disaster victims alongwith other necessary items needed for day-to-day existence.  Moreover, the need of the hour is solar light as that entire area is out of electricity supply.

OBEISANCE

We bow our head in respect and pay our sincerest homage to the holy souls who gave their life for saving others from the natural disaster that shook the heart of the entire country.  As you all are well aware that on the fateful night of 16th June, 2013, a disaster took place at Uttarakhand which took many lives and damaged a huge amount of buildings. The Sanyasis and Staffs of the Devbhumi Branches of Bharat Sevashram Sangha at Uttarakhand braved the situation and tried to save every one till death won the war and took them away.  They are not present in this world anymore but they will always remain in the hearts of the survivors of this disaster.  The martyrs were:

1.      Swami Jagdishananda of Kedarnath
2.      Swami Kedarnathananda of Gaurikund
3.      Swami Sarbalokananda of Gaurikund
4.      Sri Saroj Mahali of Kedarnath (Missing)
5.      Sri Pushpaklal of Gaurikund (Missing)

May God bless them and may their soul rest in peace.

The Ashrams at Kedarnath and Gaurikund is completely washed away.  Many of the staffs are hospitalised, many are injured while coming down to Ukhimath by foot, the names are:

On Sunday 30th June 2013 members of Rotary Club Navi Mumbai Seaside distributed 100 Umbrellas with two different colors Orange and Red, bearing logo of rotary wheel and Enjoy, to 100 Cancer patients of BSS, Vashi.

We thank Retired Brigadier Dharam Prakash for his initiative, Rotarian Mr. Chawla for organising the Umbrellas from the manufacturer and each member of the esteemed Club for their generous support.   
On behalf of Swami Badrikanandji and Ms. Parul Negi were present during this occation.

Report on Uttarakhand

REPORT

UKHIMATH
Immediately after disaster in Kedarnath, Gourikund, Bharat Sevashram Sangha started relief work from Ukhimath centre from 18th June for victims of Khimana, Dangar, Bemala, Gandhinagar, Tugasu villages. 1500 families, policeman and Rahat Karyawala (50 Nos.), cooked food distributed for 12 days. At present from 1st July Rice, Dal, Atta, Vegetable oil are being distributed to 500 families. It will continue upto 8th July.  Swami Satarupananda in-charge of Ukhimath relief camp.

BADRINATH
From 18.06.2013 to 30.06.2013 in Badrinath branch of Sangha, daily 600 stranded pilgrims from different state took shelter in Ashram (just beside Badrinath Bus depot). They  are served morning Tea & Biscuits, Rice & Dalia in lunch and Khicri in dinner. Drinking water also given as per need. A medical team treated those who are sick. Swami Priyabratananda, in-charge, Badrinath relief camp with 4 monks and 8 volunteers run the disaster relief camp day & night. Food grains supplied from Haridwar branch to Joshimath & airlifted from Joshimath helipad to Badrinath by Army personnel. 

RISHIKESH
From 25.06.2013 to 29.06.2013
Those who were returning from Dehradun & Srinagar to Rishikesh, for them a relief camp was setup near Rishikesh Railway station & Bus depot by Bharat Sevashram Sangha Drinking water, Biscuits, Cakes and Tea was given in the morning & lunch (Puri chhole, Kari rice) were distributed to the pilgrims. Swami Vedantananda with 3 monks and volunteers organized the relief camp from 8.30 am to 8 pm. A medical team also engaged to treat injured & sick persons. Daily 70 persons avail the medical help. 

HARIDWAR
From 23.06.2013 to 30.06.2013
Mobile medical unit in front of Haridwar railway station (9am – 4pm) headed by Swami Kamalananda & Dr. Mittal with Para-medical staff was busy to treat sick and injured pilgrims, those returning from Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gourikund, Gupt Kashi etc. 
Haridwar branch at Devpura provided free accommodation & meal to Uttarakhand disaster victim from 19th June to 1.07.2013 July. Allopathic, Homeopathic doctors treated the injured person at the Ashram. 

GUPT KASHI
The most affected villages where no relief materials reached till 24th June. A team of monks headed by Swami Shivarupananda reached Gupt Kashi on 25th June , camping at Neelkanth Hotel, from there supplying food grains to 2000 pilgrims of Lwara, Lamgoundi, Tulanga, Nagjagai, Bedula, Kunjeti villages under Kedarnath chhetra. Each family  - 5 Kg Rice, 2Kg Arhar Dal, 2 Kg Atta, 1 Ltr. refine oil, 2 Kg Potato, 3 big candles and matchbox and blankets to each family. On 27th June Ms. Asha Nautiyal, M L A Kedarnath chhetra visited our relief camp and distributed food grains. Similar food grains distribution going on to the victim. It will take to complete the entire area another 10 days.
